Privacy
AuroraLights sets no cookies and uses no analytics, ads or tracking. Your chosen place is stored only in your own browser. To get the cloud forecast, coordinates rounded to about 11 km are sent through our server to MET Norway. We do not store them. Contact info@auroralights.app with questions.
Your location
If you press “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission. The position is used in your browser to work out the aurora chance and darkness, and is saved in your browser’s local storage so the page remembers your place next time. You can clear it by clearing site data in your browser.
The aurora data is downloaded as a whole map and looked up in your browser, so your position is not sent to us for that. For the cloud forecast, your coordinates rounded to 0.1° (about 11 km) are sent to our server, which asks MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute) and caches the answer. We do not log or store the coordinates. MET Norway sees only our server, not your IP address.
Hosting
The site runs on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
No cookies, no tracking
There are no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no email sign-up, so no cookie banner is needed. If this changes, this page will be updated first.
